Valparai is a mid-elevation hill station (Ootacamund is considerably higher). The tea plantations are surrounded by evergreen forest. The region is also a rich elephant tract and is known to have many leopards. The drive to the town from Pollachi passes through the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary noted for elephants, boars, lion-tailed macaques, gaur,spotted deer, sambar, and giant squirrels. The area is also rich in birds, including the great hornbill. Water bodies at Monkey Falls and Aliyar Dam are also seen en route. Valparai receives among the highest rainfall in the region during the monsoons (around June).

Palamalai, is a small hill near near the sub-urban areas of Coimbatore. From the center of the city, it is located at around 25 KM distance. One needs to go to the Mettuppalayam Road, Periyanayakan Pirivu, Kovanoor and Palamalai. The roads are quite ok, and there was a road going over this small hill To Reach: Board any bus from Coimbatore ( Gandhipuram Moffusil Bus stand) and get down at Periya Nayakkan Palayam (LMW). From Periya Naicken Palayam, take a bus West to Kovanur (about 4kms) From Kovanur, a jeep (shared basis) will cost Rs. 10-Rs.20 to reach the hill temple ( 4kms) in about 20minutes. 1km from Kovanur, from the foot of the hill, there are also steps to walk up to the temple ( about 2kms- it will take about 45minutes to climb up the steps) Bus from Railway Station / Gandhipuram (Bus No. 32) at 5.30 am will take you to Kovanur by 6.4 5am. Baralikkadu

Baralikadu is a small tribal village which is situated near Pillur dam. It is an undisclosed spot which inspires nature lovers. The way is a hilly terrain enriched with green vegetation with a pleasant climate providing many view points to have a awe for these scenes. The ride covers a distance of 5 km on the cool water with mountains and forest on either side gives us a rare sight. You can also stop by the banks to have a walk into the jungle as you like. Walking into the bushes and marshes, along some seasonal streams, enjoying fresh air really energising us, inhaling the smell of the flowers and so on. A nice bath in the running water with the pleasant breeze giving a cooling effect and a great relief. Kovai Kutralam

Kovai Kutralam  is a scenic spot with a gentle waterfall originating on the Siruvani hill ranges. It is located on the Western Ghats mountain range that lies to the west of this city at a distance of about 35 kms from Coimbatore. The siruvani dam is just above this water fall and this place is under the control of forest department. Permission has to be sought from them to visit this Kovai Kutralam Falls. Limited bus service is available from the city and this area is out of bounds after 5 pm. This is the only place near Coimbatore where you find a nice enchanting waterfall. Kovai Kuttralam is a scenic waterfalls amidst a protected forest area near Coimbatore. It situated in the road that goes to Siruvani Dam from Coimbatore (Okkadam-Perur-Karunya).
