Thirumoorthi Hills




The scenic beauty of the Anamalai hill range of Western Ghats, includes the cascading water to the Thirumoorthy reservoir from the Panchalingam Falls. A perennial stream flows by the side of the Sri Amanalingeswarar temple. The presiding deity is called Amanalingeswara.


Thirumoorthy hills is also home to the Universal Peace Foundation. It is an international non-profitable organisation with its fundamental aim to emerge Universal Peace through Individual Peace. The foundation is also involved in the practice of Kundalini yoga. The foundation is under the guidance of an enlightened Yogic Guru, "Guru Mahan Paranjothiar".



There is a famous waterfalls called PANJALINGA falls which is situated about three kilometers climbing over the hills.Thirumoorthy hill is the major cini shooting spot in the Coimbatore District where most of the Malayalam and TamilMovies are taken here due to the pleasant climate and the elegant view of the nature. There is also a swimming pool and a well laid out garden and boating facilities in the dam.

HISTORY

It is believed that a few thousand years ago Atri Maharishi along with his wife Anusuya devi lived here.

It is also believed that Jain priests or Samanar lived in the hills when Jainism flourished in Tamil Nadu. The huge rock which is worshiped as Thirumoorthy has a sculpture of a Jain priest. A popular belief is that this rock rolled down from the hills few centuries back during a flood. This is supported by the fact that sculpture is carved upside down on rock



How To Go There

This is about 20 km from Udumalaipettai on the Highway from Palani to Coimbatore. Local buses ply from Udumalpet to this place.

Rail :

Coimbatore is connected by rail to Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi and other cities.

Road :

It is also connected to all the important cities and places of interest by road.

Aliyar Dam

Aliyar Dam is a charming location surrounded by Anamalai Hills with wonderful natural views.   Aliyar Dam is located in the Anamalai Hills of the Western Ghats. It is about 65 kilometres from Coimbatore in Valparai Mainroad. From Pollachi is about 25kms. and From Valparai is about 40 Kms. In Aliyar Dam there is a park, garden, aquarium, play area, Boat House Park. Monkey Falls and The Temple of Consciousness are the tourist attractions. It is located between Pollachi and Valparai. Kovai Kutralam

Kovai Kutralam  is a scenic spot with a gentle waterfall originating on the Siruvani hill ranges. It is located on the Western Ghats mountain range that lies to the west of this city at a distance of about 35 kms from Coimbatore. The siruvani dam is just above this water fall and this place is under the control of forest department. Permission has to be sought from them to visit this Kovai Kutralam Falls. Limited bus service is available from the city and this area is out of bounds after 5 pm. This is the only place near Coimbatore where you find a nice enchanting waterfall.
